Spring of 2006 in Tacoma, WA was my first introduction to the biggest underground hiphop artist Atmosphere.  Every few weeks throughout the year I would visit one of my closest friends living in the area.  Atmosphere and Disco D were just a couple of artists that had the biggest impact on him, later I would discover that his influence would have an even greater impact on me as my passion for music grew from a hobby to a career.  When their latest album “When Life Gives You Lemons, Paint That Shit Gold” was released I contacted my friend to hear his feedback.  He said that the title of the album clearly expresses is strong support for their music; they are real. After the album’s release I found the vinyl in the Pulse office and to this day it is one of the few vinyls we have and maybe the only one unopened with the plastic wrap.

Atmosphere’s lyrics and beats bring down the barriers of only having hiphop fans.  The reality expressed in an upbeat rhyme brings people together.   Their latest single “To All My Friends” has been released to kick off their fall tour.  Slug spits out more lyrics relating to life and a song that fans or new followers can easily find a line they relate to.  As for me it is probably my personal favorite single from all of their albums.  In 3 minutes and 16 seconds, Slug is able to sum up my short story that I can never explain in short.

Check out Atmosphere September 20 at The Knitting Factory. Interview coming soon!
